Earlier today we covered claims from Gazzetta dello Sport that Juventus want to sign a midfielder in January and have turned their attention to Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.

Axel Witsel was initially thought to be the preferred option, but it’s now been repeatedly explained that the player’s age is an issue. Juventus have had second thoughts because the Borussia Dortmund midfielder turns 33-years-of-age in January.

The Gazzetta report presented Liverpool as competition for Juventus, and explained that Zakaria would fit perfectly in the Premier League.

Calciomercato now take a look at the situation, and after covering interest from the Turin giants, they say Liverpool and Manchester City are ‘lined up’ for his signing.

Despite Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp being keen, Juventus aren’t ‘scared’ and have already contacted Zakaria’s agent, presumably to have an initial chat about a move.

There’s no mention of talks with the Bundesliga club, and that could where the problems start for the Serie A side. Gladbach won’t let the 24-year-old go for next-to-nothing, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Should Liverpool or Manchester City truly come forward, then perhaps Juve need to be more concerned than Calciomercato present them as being.
