This week’s edition of SportBild talks about an ‘alleged interest’ from Liverpool in Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcântara.
Last weekend, the Spain international invited some Bayern players for a small get-together at his residence, to celebrate their latest league success.
However, the feeling amongst those who were in the attendance was that, it could be the midfielder’s farewell party.
With his current deal expiring in 2021, Thiago met the Bavarian club’s leaders on May 4th to negotiate details of a new contract. It’s claimed ‘all key points’ of the extension were clarified, but he hesitated to put pen to paper.
This confused the Bundesliga winners because ‘everything is perfect’ for the 29-year-old. He is happy with life on and off the pitch, his family is comfortable in Munich and there are no problems either with the manager or his teammates.
The question is why is he planning to leave, if ‘everything is perfect’. SportBild has an answer for that and they state the player believes he now has the last chance to join another big European club or return to Barca.
Bayern have so far not received any offer for Thiago, but there have been suggestions about interest from the Reds.
SportBild states Jürgen Klopp ‘thinks highly’ of the ‘technically skilled player’ and they are also of the belief the Merseyside club will need reinforcements in central midfield.
Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have impressed for Bayern during Thiago’s absence due to injury.
Therefore, there is no need to bring in a replacement for him and the report also adds it would be easier now for Hans-Dieter Flick’s side to part ways with Thiago.
Although the report talks about Klopp appreciating the Spaniard, there isn’t anything suggesting Liverpool will soon make an approach for the player.
