With a contract expiring at Fiorentina in 2022, Nikola Milenković is quickly becoming hot property on the transfer market.

The Serbian defender doesn’t seem interested in renewing with the Serie A side, which has led to many rumours of a move to England, with some believing a transfer to the Premier League is almost certain in the coming months.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked in recent weeks, with Manchester United’s need for the 23-year-old perhaps more pressing in the long-term with both Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez set to, hopefully for the Reds, be fully fit come the start of next season.

Add to that the acquisition of Ben Davies and the easy deal set up to keep Ozan Kabak if they want, and Jürgen Klopp could be set for the foreseeable future.

Over at Old Trafford, the situation is a bit more complicated, with neither Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf convincing consistently as well as Eric Bailly’s fitness issues coming and going.

That’s why there’s been a long-term interest in Milenković, with the Italian media recurrently claiming the Red Devils are lurking.

Well, that’s now been backed up by Sky Germany, who claim Borussia Dortmund are also interested, providing unwanted competition for the Premier League clubs, before adding both Liverpool and Manchester United ‘have recently been in touch too’.

It’s said ‘first talks’ have started between the player’s agents and Fiorentina, most likely to discuss potential transfer options for the defender.

Either way, it seems the interest could be genuine, and we have a nice battle on our hands to look forward to.
