Liverpool have made the move to ‘establish contacts’ with Villarreal over youngster Yeremy Pino, but face competition from Manchester City for his signature.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who say the 19-year-old ‘continues to dazzle’ for the Spanish side, and that has continued to attract attention.
Real Madrid asked about him in the summer but were rebuffed, with Villarreal instead getting the forward signed to a new deal with an €80m release clause included.
Pino has since continued to shine, and the list of suitors has grown as a result, with Liverpool and Manchester City known to be keen.
Earlier this month, it was stated the clubs managed by Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola had started to ‘prepare offers’ for Pino and were the two clubs who were ‘most interested’ in his signature.
El Desmarque now pick up on that and say both clubs have ‘made contact’ with Villarreal about a potential move this summer.
At the moment, it is only a ‘mere interest’ that has not gone any further than that, but there is every possibility that can change in the coming months, particularly if Pino continues to impress.
The likelihood of either paying that €80m clause seems low given Manchester City are chasing Erling Haaland, and Liverpool signed Luis Diaz in the January transfer window.
Perhaps if the Reds were to lose one of Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, though, that stance would change and contact has already been opened with Villarreal, it seems.
