Johnny Heitinga will be out for revenge at Ajax once he returns alongside Marcel Keizer as their new manager from Liverpool.
That’s according to Aad de Mos, via Soccer News, who believes the Liverpool assistant will be planning to prove plenty wrong in his second spell at the Dutch club.
Heitinga is set to return to Ajax as manager in the near future, with an agreement already in place between him and the Dutch club. They are now working on formalising his contract and dissolving his contract at Liverpool, where he’s been assistant to Arne Slot this season.
He’ll be part of a new two-man managerial team alongside Keizer, although Heitinga will be the face of the operation.
It’s an interesting move for both, who have previously managed Ajax in the past at different points in time and been moved on by them after short periods.
Heitinga actually turned things around at the club and appeared to be on course for a longer stay before previous director of football Sven Mislintat decided to go in a different direction, leading Heitinga to return to England as a coach with West Ham and then Liverpool.
Now he’s being given a second shot, and De Mos believes there will be revenge on the cards for the Dutchman.
“Now they have ended up with a duo that has already worked together,” he said.
“Senior trainer Marcel Keizer, who I also think has a knack for it. And John Heitinga is, as far as I am concerned, an excellent opportunity to give Ajax the opportunity to show that they have done it wrong with him before.
“I took revenge in the final against Ajax with KV Mechelen, I expect Heitinga and Keizer will also take revenge in their own way.”
