Liverpool have made an ‘official proposal’ to Atlético Madrid for forward Matheus Cunha, who is tempted by the move to Anfield.
That’s according to AS, who say Liverpool have shown a ‘strong interest’ in the Brazilian forward and made an offer for him.
The newspaper states that Cunha’s solid performances at Atlético have earned him plenty of attention, including a call up to the Brazil squad under Tite.
He’s not the only one who has his eye on him, though, with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp also keen. IN fact, they’ve made an ‘official proposal’ to the Spanish champions to sign him this month.
According to AS, Liverpool have ‘tempted the player’, with Klopp seeing him as a ‘good reinforcement’ for his squad.
He believes the Brazilian’s ‘strength and quality’ would suit his style perfectly, and thus he is ‘willing to make an effort’ to sign him.
They have, though, been met with an ‘initial refusal’ from Atlético, who have shown ‘no willingness to sell’ at this moment in time.
They have plans for Cunha, considering him a player who can have an important and long career at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Liverpool’s interest has come as no surprise, but they are resisting it, for now, hoping the Reds efforts to sign Luis Diaz from Porto will end any efforts for Cunha for the time being.
Even if that happens, though, they are aware that they could come calling again in the summer when Roberto Firmino could leave. That would ‘precipitate a new raid’ after the efforts this month.
