Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League final last weekend.

In the buildup to the big clash, there were several reports of both clubs battling it out for Aurélien Tchouaméni this summer.

On Monday, Foot Mercato reported that Liverpool ‘had planned’ to bid for the AS Monaco star, ‘regardless’ of the outcome of their European final.

Marca now explain that Los Blancos are ‘accelerating to close the signing’ of the 22-year-old and are in ‘permanent contact’ with the Ligue 1 side. The operation is in the ‘final stretch’ and all parties involved in the deal ‘trust’ it will be ‘closed in the near future’.

Apart from Liverpool and Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Paris Saint-Germain are also in the picture for the France international. It’s claimed the ‘rivals’ have ‘lost steam in the negotiations’ last week, while Real Madrid started gaining more strength.

The Champions League winners have ‘total understanding’ with the France international for a five-year deal and their intention is to now try to reach an agreement with Monaco for €80m.

Having failed to take PSG star Kylian Mbappé, the Spanish champions shifted focus to his compatriot.

Liverpool are aware of this and that is the reason Jürgen Klopp’s side are ‘out of the race’ to sign the Frenchman. It is ‘almost the same’ with PSG, who are ‘reluctant to throw in the towel’.

Having ‘surpassed’ both Liverpool and PSG, Real Madrid and Monaco ‘approach positions’ to ‘finish the agreement’ for Tchouaméni’s transfer to Spain.
