Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds for him after heading out on loan once again this summer.
The German goalkeeper joined Bundesliga side Union Berlin on loan at the end of last month, with it made clear he was surplus to requirements at Anfield.
It is the second loan spell he’s been on since joining Liverpool, having spent the last two years with Turkish side Bešiktas. He is hoping to revive his career in his homeland after a difficult few years since joining Liverpool in 2016.
However, he still has a contract at Anfield until 2022, meaning that he and Liverpool will need to make another decision about his future next summer when he’s in the final year of his deal.
And the 27-year-old admits he has no idea what will happen, having been unsure whether to leave Merseyside this summer.
“I wasn’t sure whether to go or stay,” he told BILD.
“The option to stay was definitely there because, even if you are not the first goalkeeper, you get your playing time through the cup competitions and the many games.
“Then the decision matured that I wanted to be in goal week after week.
“I still have a few more years of contract with Liverpool, and I don’t know what the situation will look like next summer.”
