Liverpool have joined Everton in the race to sign Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech, according to reports in the Dutch media. The playmaker was linked with a move to Everton in the summer transfer window, but instead the 23-year-old signed for Ajax from FC Twente.
SoccerNews have reported Liverpool could be in contention to sign Ziyech if Philippe Coutinho was to leave the Merseyside club in the summer. The Brazilian has just signed a new contract with Liverpool, but has been linked with a move to Spain.
It’s been claimed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Ziyech, and that scouts from the Premier League side have made frequent trips to Amsterdam this season to watch Ajax. The Morocco international has in recent months spoken about keeping his options open, and this summer could see a scramble for the attacking midfielder.
Last summer we covered reports from the Netherlands that Everton were taking a keen interest in Ziyech, and considered him an option. There were talks of bids coming in for the Moroccan, but it wasn’t confirmed if Everton had tabled an offer.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman also spoke to the Dutch press of his admiration for Ziyech before the player took the decision to sign for Ajax.
