Liverpool loanee Lazar Markovic is still struggling to find his place at Sporting CP.

The Serbian hasn’t had a chance to start a game so far, and in the five occasions he came off of the bench, he couldn’t impress much, with a record of zero goals or assists.

CapturarDuring the Champions League tie against Legie Warsaw last night, the player received a “monumental boo”, as described by Portuguese newspaper Record.

Markovic was leading an attack and chose not to pass the ball to Bas Dost, who was in a good position to score. He ended up losing the ball instead, annoying the fans, who booed him.

The winger’s best days were still at Benfica, when he called attention of Europe’s top clubs and signed for Liverpool for €25m in 2014.

However, he hasn’t been able to find that form again, either at Anfield or during his loan spell at Fenerbahce. He has a new chance at Sporting, where the manager Jorge Jesus, who coached him at Benfica, was even thinking of changing his position to help him.

UPDATE: Record have released a statement this afternoon apologising to Sporting fans. The newspaper now say they can’t know if the boos were directed to the player or to the referee, who hadn’t signalled a foul in the same period of play.
