KV Oostende midfielder Kenny Rochas Dos Santos has revealed his agent held talks with clubs in January but refused to name Liverpool as one of them.
Reports in England last month claimed Jürgen Klopp’s side were scouting the Cape Verde midfielder, who has established himself as a key player for the Belgian club since his arrival in July 2021.
Those reports indicated that Liverpool were keeping a close eye on his performances in the Jupiler Pro League but weren’t the only ones doing so, with Porto and Feyenoord also in the mix.
The key point was that Oostende were believed to only value the midfielder at around €10m, meaning he, therefore, could be a cheap option for Klopp to bolster his midfield.
There’s been little to no follow up reports on the matter since then, with Dos Santos remaining in Belgium until the end of the season at least.
The midfielder has now confirmed his agent has held talks with clubs, although he did not go as far as naming Liverpool as one of them.
“There have been contacts between my manager and some clubs, but it’s not like an immediate transfer was in the air,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying.
“For me, there was never any doubt. It was certain that I would still be playing for KV Oostende after the new year.
“I know many players dream of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A… But if I could choose, I would like to play a Champions League match one day.
“I would also like to play a World Cup with Cape Verde. That is really a dream.
“The problem is that Cape Verde is a small football country and only five African teams can go to the World Cup. In football, of course, you never know and anything is possible.”
