As Liverpool supporters are no doubt well aware, Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona hasn’t worked out very well.
The Catalan club didn’t have a clear plan of how to use the Brazilian and he failed to shine, leading to huge pressure and endless negative reports. Last summer he was loaned out to Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga club are thought to have no intention of making his move there permanent.
That’s led to Barcelona hoping a big offer comes from the Premier League, however, the claims have been getting slightly desperate of late, with reports linking clubs like Leicester City and Newcastle United.
Should Barca not be able to get the money they want, there’s been suggestions they could keep the player at the Camp Nou next season. But this option doesn’t come without cost.
Coutinho is 24 matches away from 100 for Barcelona, and Sport report that would mean paying a further €20m to Liverpool.
They believe that if he stays for the coming season, ‘it seems evident’ that he’ll hit that mark, sending €20m to Anfield and potentially Jurgen Klopp’s future transfer kitty.
That would make signing Coutinho from Liverpool even more costly than it already has been, and could give Barca extra incentive to find a transfer this summer.
