Liverpool are in ‘pole position’ to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, with Jürgen Klopp eyeing up a partnership with Virgil van Dijk.

That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who says the Reds are ‘boiling over the idea’ of signing the centre back this summer.

Koulibaly is widely expected to leave Napoli in the coming transfer window, with both the player and the club accepting a parting of the ways is on the horizon.

All the major clubs around Europe have been linked with making a move, with Liverpool surprisingly joining the list at the end of April.

That initial report from Tuttomercatoweb indicated Klopp was eyeing up the defender as he seeks a partner for Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Le 10 Sport confirm that is very much the case, stating that Liverpool have made a ‘very noticed entry’ into the race for his signature.

According to their information, they are ‘boiling’ over the idea of pairing him with Van Dijk and forming an ‘exceptional’ partnership at the heart of their team.

Sources close to the player say they are ‘fairly optimistic’ about the progress of the negotiations and the chances of seeing him move to Anfield this summer.

Nothing is done as yet, but it’s stated the Reds are very much in pole position, with Klopp ‘convinced’ pairing him with the Dutchman will be a ‘big hit’.
