After (finally) signing Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton for a world record fee for a defender, Liverpool are still looking to bolster their defence, if La Provence are to be believed.
According to the French newspaper, the Reds are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig’s Dayotchanculle Upamecano, who has had a breakthrough season with the Bundesliga side.
Seen by some as one of the most promising centre-backs in the world, the 19-year-old is readying himself to face Marseille in the Europa League, and that’s all he’s thinking about right now.
Amid interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona, the young man is focused on one thing, and that’s finishing the season strongly.
He told La Provence: “I’m here and I feel very good. Everything is going well with the manager, the staff and the rest of the team. We’ll see what the future holds, but, for now, I’m keeping my feet on the ground. I’m here and nowhere else”.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the coming months, and with his potential, RB Leipzig aren’t exactly going to let him go for cheap.
With Naby Keita on the way, an attack already scoring a vast number of goals, and Andy Robertson making that left-back position his own, there’s only two major areas Liverpool need to focus on now: a new goalkeeper, and Van Dijk’s long-term partner.
We’d say replacing Emre Can too, but Jürgen Klopp’s recent comments weren’t exactly those of a man who’s accepted the German midfielder is on his way out.
