Liverpool are ‘keeping an eye on’ Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez but have never made a firm bid or hinted they would do so.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say it remains to be seen if the Reds are capable of ‘taking the step forward’ to try and sign the Argentine.
Reports in England this week have linked Liverpool with a move for the midfielder, with it claimed that they were eyeing a move after injuries to key players and loanee Arthur.
Estadio Deportivo pull those back today, though, stating that while the interest exists, there has been nothing concrete from the Reds.
They explain that Rodriguez is still ‘the main value’ in the Betis squad and they could offer him in the next window to balance the books.
It was the same in the summer, when he was the player that gave them the most options to be able to earn an interesting surplus in the books and sign players to bolster Manuel Pellegrini’s squad.
However, ‘no solid offer came in’ and the priority now is to get him signed to a new deal, perhaps even before the World Cup.
That has not stopped powerful teams in Europe, such as Liverpool, from ‘keeping an eye on him’ but nothing materialised in the summer, and it remains to be seen if they are capable of ‘taking the step forward’ to make it happen in January.
It other words, Betis aren’t convinced Liverpool have the money or the will to spend what it would take to sign Rodriguez.
Thus, as far as Estadio are concerned, there’s nothing in the latest slew of rumours for the time being.
