Schalke have targeted Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi as a replacement for Ozan Kabak, who they are negotiating with Liverpool over.
That’s according to BILD, who back up claims elsewhere in Germany that the Arsenal man is the chosen replacement for the departing defender.
Liverpool are believed to be negotiating with Schalke over a move for Kabak, who would arrive on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Schalke, though, want to find a replacement before letting the defender go and reports in Germany have stated they are keen on Mustafi, who looks set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer.
BILD back all of this up, stating that Liverpool have ‘great interest’ in Kabak and are talking over a loan deal with a €30m option to buy.
They also state that the centre back is keen to make the move to Anfield and he’s been pictured at their training ground today visiting Schalke’s doctor, with a suggestion it could be for a medical ahead of the move.

Schalke will let him go if they can find a replacement and director of football Jochen Schneider has Mustafi ‘in mind’.
He’s already stated that he wants to leave Arsenal and they’ve been working on that over the last few weeks.
It now seems to be accelerating, with his potential arrival at Schalke opening the door for Liverpool to get Kabak and the defensive cover they desperately need.
