Schalke manager Christian Gross has revealed Ozan Kabak didn’t think twice about the chance to join Liverpool.

The centre back completed a deadline day move to Anfield yesterday, joining on loan until the end of the season.

That deal includes a purchase option for the Reds, with it widely expected that they will make Kabak’s move a permanent one at some point.

The move brings an end to nearly a year of speculation around Kabak, who was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer when it was believed Jürgen Klopp and co were on the hunt for another central defender.

That continued this month, with the young centre back clearly on a list of targets that the Premier League champions had drawn up.

They eventually moved for their man following a season-ending injury to Joel Matip last week, with Kabak swapping Germany for England in a classic deadline day move.

It now remains to be seen if he can make the impact Liverpool are hoping for, but according to Gross, it was a chance he didn’t think about passing up.

“When Ozan heard the name Liverpool, he didn’t hesitate long and asked the club to do everything possible to make it work,” Kicker report him saying.

“If he has the opportunity to continue his career at Liverpool, no player will have to think twice.

“The opportunity to train under Klopp will definitely help him.

“Of course, in that case, he will look to himself first, but we only handed him over with the certainty that we had a very good replacement for him.”
