Liverpool are said to be one of the many sides who are interested in the 22-year-old Olympic champion Zeca. According to Brazilian outlets Lance and Globo Esporte, PSG and AC Milan are the other two clubs who have been monitoring his situation.

But Atletico Madrid are the ones leading the race, ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for now, as they’ve reportedly opened talks for the signing. The club already tried the transfer during the summer window, but their €8m bid wasn’t enough to take the player.

Santos will be playing the Copa Libertadores this year for the first time since 2012, so it’s unlikely they will let their talents go easily. Lance say the club would only accept an “irresistible” offer for the player, which for the Brazilian standards wouldn’t really be an expensive deal for that list of European sides.

Liverpool would easily be able to meet the demands of Santos should they so wish.

Zeca isn’t really focused on staying or leaving, and in recent interviews the player said he could go to Europe as long as the bids are good enough for Santos.

The right-footed fullback only plays for Santos on the left side, and although used in the Olympics on the right, ended up doing a good job despite seeming a bit lost sometimes.

A player who could operate at both right and left back to a high standard would be a boost for most squads, and that includes Klopp’s Liverpool.
