Over the past few months, Liverpool have been one of the clubs that Timo Werner of RB Leipzig has been linked with.

The 23-year-old’s current deal with the Bundesliga outfit will expire after the end of next season and the club’s chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has already confirmed the forward has no plans to sign a new contract.

German newspaper Kicker now takes a look at his contract situation as a failure to offload him after the end of the season could see him leave his current employer as a free agent in 2020.

According to the report, it is stated that no one at Leipzig takes Werner staying with the club beyond his current deal ‘seriously’, which is why they claim a ‘farewell’ in the summer is approaching.

In regards to the clubs ‘interested’ in the Germany international, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool get a mention along with Paris Saint-Germain and long-term admirers Bayern Munich.

Kicker doesn’t provide information as to which of the three clubs are leading the race to sign Werner and what fee Leipzig are demanding to part ways with him in the next transfer window.

Werner has scored 14 goals and registered five assists in 27 league appearances.
