Two months ago, we relayed news from Italy that Liverpool scouts ‘carefully studied’ Marcelo Brozović in Inter Milan’s derby win over AC Milan.

Over the past couple of weeks, the Reds have been discussed as a potential suitor for the midfielder.

According to FcInterNews, the Merseyside club have ‘set their sights’ on the Croatia international and are ‘interested’ in him.

The 27-year-old’s current deal lasts until 2022 and has a €60m release clause.

Antonio Conte’s side have plans to extend the player’s contract. He currently earns €3.5m per season plus bonuses and the Nerazzurri have offered a deal until 2024, which includes a rise of €1m.

The Zagreb born midfielder, however, is demanding an annual salary of €6m. The report suggests the two parties could come to some sort of an understanding, but the bigger issue at hand for Inter is the buyout clause.

It’s claimed Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta doesn’t like the release clause and he intends to remove it from the contract. This factor would give Brozović’s agent Miroslav Bičanić an upper hand while demanding better wages for his client.

The Serie A man gives his ‘priority to Inter’, while Liverpool ‘remain vigilant’ to his situation at the San Siro.

Brozović’s representative could use Liverpool’s interest in demanding better wages for the Croatian.
