There is no denying that while Liverpool have the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané in their ranks, both capable of scoring goals aplenty, the one thing the club do not have is a proper number 9.
It’s not something they’ve desperately been lacking, either, as Roberto Firmino has been instrumental in helping get the best out of the aforementioned two at Anfield, but once one or both of them leave (their contracts expire in 2023), tactics might have to change.
That’s why it isn’t surprising to see Liverpool being linked with out and out strikers, with Alexander Isak popping up here and there in column inches next to the Reds’ name.
Noticias de Gipuzkoa have an article dedicated to Klopp’s interest in the Swede, with it said that Real Sociedad ‘would have promised to listen to offers in the hypothetical case that important offers arrived from big clubs in Europe’.
In fact, the team ‘most interested and that has enough muscle to produce a significant outlay are Liverpool’, with scouts from Anfield monitoring the striker ‘for a long time and have advised his signing, considering him by far the most interesting striker in La Liga to shore up their squad’.
That being said, they also know they aren’t the only club interested in Isak, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United also looking at him.
Real Sociedad don’t mind this at all, because they are ‘rubbing their hands’, aware that if an auction starts, they will get a big figure for him.
Whether it reaches the €90m of his release clause remains to be seen, but Liverpool have the funds if needed.
