The Coutinho saga is likely to end one way, whether that means the Brazilian moving to Barcelona in January or the summer transfer window.

Then Liverpool need to make a big statement by spending money and bringing in players which will arguably see Jurgen Klopp’s side stronger than it was. Arguably, the club have already started spending the Coutinho money by signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton but fans will expect more attacking additions too.

Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe has a transfer round-up on page 16 and a small snippet about Liverpool and Riyad Mahrez. It’s claimed the Premier League club have initiated contact to sign Mahrez from Leicester City, although the precise nature of this contact, and who it was with, isn’t explained.

Taking the claim at face value and being true, and all the other Mahrez claims also the same way, Liverpool join nearly every other top Premier League club to have initiated contact over the past year or so to sign Mahrez.

Every window there’s a steady stream of claims from both France and Algeria, with it being very clear the Leicester player is very keen on a move.
