Leading his team to Champions League glory, the 2018-19 campaign was a successful one for Jürgen Klopp, even if he just missed out on the Premier League to Manchester City.

Creating a deadly team capable of punishing you at the slightest mistake, the German has got the best out of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, yet there is no real plan B.

What proved costly in their quest for Premier League glory was the number of draws they accumulated (seven to Manchester City’s two) and perhaps having an alternative on the bench, especially up front, could have helped unlock those tougher to crack defences.

That’s why it isn’t the craziest idea to see the Reds linked with someone like Moussa Marega, suitable for their direct style of play while proving a different sort of handful for centre-backs than Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah, as well as being capable of getting on the end of crosses from the marauding full-backs.

The news comes from Foot Mercato in France, who claim both Liverpool and West Ham are ‘hot’ on the Mali international amid interest from Marseille.

Their journalist, Sebastien Denis, makes it clear the Premier League sides are ‘better equipped’ than the Ligue 1 club to get their man, as Porto are asking for €30m.

West Ham have been linked with Marega for quite some time now, but Liverpool is a new one, at least this year.

The 28-year-old scored 21 goals in 47 appearances last season, six of which came in Porto’s nine Champions League games.
