Liverpool, fresh from their Carabao Cup win, have not forgotten about the future and that Jürgen Klopp will not be their manager next season.

That’s according to Santi Aouna in France, as the Foot Mercato journalist took to X, formerly Twitter, to claim the Reds have had ‘new positive contacts’ with Xabi Alonso about the upcoming vacant job at Anfield.

He adds that the Spaniard ‘wants the move’ to Liverpool, who will ‘continue to push’ in the next weeks to ensure they seal his future arrival ahead of other competitors.

Bayern Munich are said to be pursuing that avenue as well, but the Bayer Leverkusen boss is ‘more excited’ about going back to his former club in England and getting a chance in the Premier League.

This means Liverpool are his first choice, and Alonso would be ‘delighted’ to take on the challenge of replacing Klopp and keeping the good times rolling on Merseyside.

It’s pointed out in the article on the subject that the Reds are in a far more stable situation than the Bavarians, who are ‘clearly behind’ the Premier League side at this moment in time.
