Jadon Sancho left Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and after a limited role in his debut season in the Bundesliga, the 19-year-old shone for the German side last season, with 12 goals and 14 assists in the league.
His performances for Dortmund helped him debut for England and also caught the attention of Manchester United and others.
It looks like the Red Devils’ arch rivals, Liverpool have their eyes on the winger. This is according to former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who explained the Merseyside club’s interest on Sky90.
“What I hear is that Liverpool has great interest. I would imagine that next summer they could become one of the biggest interested parties,” he explained.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are credited with an interest in the youngster, but Hamann believes his past association with City could be a factor.
“He’s from Manchester City and I do not know if he would come back again, and it’s a thing for Manchester United, too, if they’ve ever been to the rivals,” the German added.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino are the first choice players to lead Liverpool’s attack for Jürgen Klopp. Hamann backs Sancho to further bolster the Reds’ attacking division, if one of the former three leaves Anfield.
“Sancho does not have a release clause. If Dortmund say that they want an astronomical amount, it will not happen,” Hamann explained.
“There are currently few players that could reinforce this offensive [lineup]. I don’t know if Sancho’s such a player, but maybe if there’s one going away from those three, then Sancho would be predestined for this offensive alliance.”
Sancho has continued to excel this season with three goals and five assists in seven league appearances.
