Even though Liverpool seem to be one of the main contenders for the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, it’s clear they won’t have an easy task to get him from the Eagles.
At the weekend, club president Rui Costa pointed out that the Lisbon side are not losing any of their starters during the January window, as those players would only go in case interested sides show up and trigger their release clause.
As newspaper Record covers those quotes, they list a few athletes who’ve been linked to European giants. When speaking of Fernandez, they point out that Liverpool are ‘at the front’ for his signing, along with Real Madrid.
The problem is that the midfielder has one of the biggest release clauses in Benfica’s squad, protected by a €120m fee, and that’s how much the Eagles will demand in the January window.
Even though the Spanish media recently published a story claiming Fernandez already has a deal to join Liverpool, the Portuguese press actually seems to know nothing about that, considering the midfielder one of Benfica’s biggest assets in the squad.
With the 21-year-old having a great World Cup campaign with Argentina, the Eagles just know they can hold until the summer to make a lot of money with his sale.
