Liverpool are interested in Torino defender Per Schuurs and are ‘at the forefront’ of clubs looking to sign him this summer, working to beat Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say the Reds are ‘ready to offer’ a sum of €50m to bring him to Anfield next season.
They explain that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted the defender as early as 2020 and even last summer he and those in charge at the club considered a move.
They never went as far as ‘sinking their teeth in’ but have seemingly changed their mind and are ready to make their move to beat the competition to Schuurs signature, perhaps prompted by the claimed interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.
Defence has been something of a problem for them again this season, with Ibrahima Konaté suffering several injury issues and neither Joel Matip or Joe Gomez proving to be capable replacements.
It seems that may have led to an increased interest in Schuurs and now Liverpool are preparing to try and get him.
They’ll have to move quickly, though, as Manchester United, Tottenham and Paris Saint Germain are all interested in the centre back as well.
Indeed, Tuttosport say there is ‘fierce competition at the highest level’ for him after his impressive performances for Torino this season.
They know that they’ll likely have to sell Schuurs this summer and won’t be able to keep him if a top club comes in offering him at least twice his salary and the chance at Premier League and Champions League football.
In fact the player’s agents have already made it clear that there are ‘many juicy’ offers on the table, with Liverpool seemingly one of them.
