Jürgen Klopp will not be able to rely on Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for most of this season after the two centre-backs suffered serious injuries in October and November respectively.
The duo’s setbacks have seen Liverpool being linked with several defenders for the mid-season transfer window.
Ezequiel Garay is among them and on November 27th, we relayed news from Spain the 34-year-old has been ‘offered’ to the Reds and Barcelona.
The Argentine has been without a club since Valencia released him at the end of the last campaign. The former Real Madrid man was recovering from a cruciate ligament injury he suffered in February, and that stopped him from finding a new club.
According to Mendoza Post in Argentina, the English champions and the Catalan club still ‘want’ Garay.
Both clubs are short of options in the centre-back position, and this would see them considering signing a new player in the same position in January.
The South American has not played for 11 months, but the report states that hasn’t put off both Liverpool and Barcelona. That’s because of Garay being made available on a free transfer and also his experience of playing at the highest level over the last decade.
Although it’s stated Garay is ‘wanted’ by the two European giants, Mendoza Post makes it clear the two sides have only carried out surveys with his environment, to find out the possibility of the signing.
It remains to be seen if either or both the clubs are willing to make an offer for Garay in the winter market.
