The Italian sport media continue with their insistence that Liverpool want to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli this summer.

Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport claims the Reds have now tried to get the player for €60m, lower than what the Serie A club want for him. Jurgen Klopp is presented as wanting the signing done, and being behind the club’s attempt for the defender.

For some time, it’s been claimed in Italy that Klopp wants to partner Koulibaly with Virgil van Dijk, to further strengthen the Merseyside club’s defence.

Aurelio De Laurentiis continues to insist on receiving €100m minimum if he’s to let his player leave. That has felt unrealistic for a while, given Koulibaly hasn’t had his best season, and that he’s now 29 years of age.

Liverpool’s name may be being used to try and hype the player’s value, as seems to have happened with Manchester United in the past. PSG have been linked, and still are, and there’s a chance this is all an effort from Napoli to get more money from the French club.

A fee of around €60m appears fair in the current climate.
