Liverpool are dreaming of pairing Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly with Virgil van Dijk this summer, but will have to pay €80m for his signature.
The Senegalese centre back is widely expected to leave the Italian club this summer, with both him and the club having accepted now is the time for them to part ways.
Naturally, clubs all around Europe have been liked with his signature, including Liverpool, who are thought to be on the hunt for a new centre back this summer.
Several reports have indicated they are at the front of the queue for Koulibaly and that Jürgen Klopp dreams of pairing him with Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
Corriere del Mezzogiorno confirm that’s the case today, stating that Koulibaly is the player who can ‘move the blue summer’ and he has plenty of admirers in the Premier League.
Liverpool are among them, and they ‘dream’ of pairing him with Van Dijk to form a formidable centre back pairing.
Napoli will not allow him to leave on the cheap, though, and are hoping he has a strong end to the season to ensure his price remains high.
Their current asking price is €80m, with it stated he ‘does not leave’ for anything less than that price this summer.
That, though, appears to be Napoli hoping they can get that much rather than it being a fact that any of his interested parties will pay it.
Liverpool, for example, have already made it clear they will not be spending big this summer as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak and the impact that has had on their finances.
Several other teams are in the same boat, and if Napoli intend to make money from a sale, they may have to lower their expectations considerably.
