Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez had barely arrived in Lisbon this summer when he was linked to Liverpool. The midfielder had a quick start with the Eagles and it was soon claimed the Reds, who were already interested in signing him from River Plate, would now like to try to take him from Portugal.
But despite the rumours about a quick move for the 21-year-old, newspaper O Jogo now comes up to say that this transfer shouldn’t happen in the coming months.
The Portuguese outlet writes that Fernandez is focused on continuing with his adaptation to European football at Benfica. He likes everything the Eagles have been offering him and is in no rush for an exit.
It’s said the player ‘knows’ there are other clubs following him, and that’s where O Jogo bring Liverpool in, claiming the Reds are one of those who ‘don’t rule out’ going for his signing in ‘short or medium term’.
The big belief is that both Fernandez and Benfica wouldn’t accept a January move, so that’s a reason for the interested clubs to wait at least until next summer.
The midfielder is protected by a €120m release clause, so Liverpool would need to spend big to convince the Eagles to change their mind in the winter market.
