Liverpool’s interest in Jordy Gaspar is nothing new.
The Lyon full-back has been a target for Jürgen Klopp since last August, when Le Progrès reported the 19-year-old was the subject of an enquiry from the Merseyside club, and the story has never truly disappeared.
Gaspar even addressed the Liverpool interest directly last November, explaining why he was yet to sign a professional contract with Lyon, and even going as far as saying playing abroad ‘didn’t scare him’, hinting a move was a possibility.
Well, TF1 on Tuesday, via their Téléfoot reporter Julien Maynard, report Lyon have are trying to fend off the interest from foreign clubs, including Jürgen Klopp’s, by making him another professional contract offer.
However, the 19-year-old is also said to be holding contract talks with Liverpool and AC Milan, who have ‘sent multiple propositions’ for the right-back, while Fiorentina and Bayer Leverkusen have also declared some interest.
With the emergence of Mouctar Diakhaby this season in the centre of their defence, Lyon will be keen to keep the tradition of bringing young players through to the first-team, with Jordy Gaspar seemingly next in line.
Making his debut for Lyon’s first-team this season in a Champions League clash against Sevilla, the versatile full-back (who can also play down the left), has since been in and out of Bruno Génésio’s squad, making two more appearances in Ligue 1 against Nice and Bastia.
