Liverpool have denied that they had officials in Blackpool to meet Florian Wirtz this week, while his father and agent is refusing to comment on the matter.

That’s according to Sky Germany, who report that the sources close to the Wirtz family have insisted the meeting in Blackpool was for Liverpool and not Manchester City.

They explain that Hans-Joachim Wirtz, Florian’s father and advisor, could not be reached to discuss the transfer when asked. Liverpool were also unable to confirm a meeting with club officials when specifically asked.

Sources close to the Premier League champions have also insisted that Liverpool bosses were not in Liverpool or in the northwest of England on Tuesday either.

Sky, though, insist that Wirtz was in Blackpool, which is in an hour’s drive from Liverpool and Manchester respectively.

Furthermore, the Reds are one of at least three serious potential buyers for the midfielder as he plans to leave Bayer Leverkusen. Whether they can or want to pay the €150m asking price remains to be seen.

According to Sky’s information, Arne Slot and his team are prioritising a left-back, right-back, centre-back and centre-forward. Thus, a move for Wirtz would not be a top priority.

Liverpool also assume that Wirtz would prefer to stay in Germany and have ‘heard signals’ to that effect. Bayer Munich are continuing to press for him and Leverkusen, led by bosses Fernando Carro, Simon Rolfes, and Kim Falkenberg, are fighting to keep him at the club. The German side are yet to receive any offer for him.

And in Liverpool, at least, it seems they’re quietly insisting that nothing was going on this week, even despite the numerous claims elsewhere that something was.
