Liverpool continue to be named as one of the strongest clubs in the race for Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio.

Today it’s Portuguese newspaper A Bola who features a page-long story about the race from English and Italian clubs for the 21-year-old.

It’s said there’s a ‘strong hypothesis’ that the centre-back will be negotiated this summer, as he’s one of the most wanted players in Sporting’s squad.

Even though the story is about English and Italian clubs, only Liverpool actually get named. It’s said the Reds have been following Inácio for a long time.

It’s recalled that Sporting previously turned down offers worth €30m for Inácio, and said he’s only leaving this summer for the price of his release clause, which stands at €45m.

However, it’s now said that they could accept different ‘solutions’, like a smaller starting fee with various ‘easily attainable’ bonuses, as long as the final fee reaches €45m.

A Bola’s report would probably be more interesting if they knew the names of more Premier League and Serie A sides who are competing for Inácio, but if Liverpool are being mentioned, perhaps that means the Reds have some kind of lead in this race, and may be showing up first to get the defender signed.
