Georginio Wijnaldum has less than three months left on his contract at Liverpool and a failure from the Merseyside club to tie him down a new deal will see the midfielder leave Anfield as a free agent.
Various reports suggest the 30-year-old has no plans to sign an extension, while the list of suitors keeps growing.
Barcelona have long been linked with a move and earlier this month, Marca reported Chelsea have joined Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in chasing the player.
It was also stated Jürgen Klopp’s side have not lost hope of retaining the Netherlands international beyond this season.
The Premier League side, however, have started searching the market for the Dutchman’s potential replacement.
That’s what Calciomercato are reporting and they say the English club have a name for post-Wijnaldum. It’s claimed the Reds are considering replacing their player with his compatriot, Teun Koopmeiners.
That’s the only information mentioned by the website about the AZ Alkmaar midfielder, after his Italian intermediaries met AS Roma general manager Tiago Pinto last week.
Liverpool are expected to face competition from the Serie A side for the 23-year-old. Koopmeiners has also confirmed Roma’s interest in him.
“There is interest, but we will see what will happen next,” he told NOS.
Koopmeiners has 17 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season for AZ.
