Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum has settled in quite quickly at Liverpool following his €27m move from Newcastle United in the summer.
His performances have been quite impressive so far, and Liverpool’s first team coach Pep Lijnders has heaped praise on the 26-year-old.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Lijnders insists Wijnadlum ’embodies the style of football we play at Liverpool’, and didn’t hesitate to further explain it.
He said: “Gini embodies the style of play we have with Liverpool. We have a collective method of attack.
“He has to think faster, faster, faster and create an action. The play must always be faster, and when we have the ball we quickly get into space where we could be dangerous. It is a development strategy to eventually make the individual stronger.“
Wijnadlum started off the season very well alongside Jordan Henderson in the midfield, but has recently lost his place in the starting XI to Emre Can following his injury, although he started against Southampton on Saturday.
Wijnaldum opened the scoring for Liverpool in the previous match against Watford after coming off the bench, and has three assists to his name this season.
The Dutchman also impressed whilst on the recent international break with the Netherlands, when he was praised in the Dutch media.
