Scouting youngsters at youth tournaments is a huge part of football, even if there is no particular target in mind, sending talent spotters out just in case someone impresses.

However, it seems that for Gustavo Viera, Liverpool and Chelsea have been seduced for a very long time by his talent, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The two Premier League clubs are said to be following the young Uruguayan’s progress alongside Juventus, hence the mention in the Italian newspaper, who could have an advantage.

The reason why Max Allegri could have a better shot than both Jürgen Klopp and Antonio Conte at bringing in the 16-year-old is the long history the Serie A side has with Uruguayan players, the latest of whom happens to be a certain Rodrigo Bentancur.

Currently playing for Liverpool FC Montevideo in his native Uruguay, it’s easy to see why Liverpool and Chelsea are after him, already making 10 appearances for his club’s first-team prior to his 17th birthday.

The problem here is that even if the Reds or the Blues wanted to bring Viera to Anfield or Stamford Bridge now, they can’t, as young South American players cannot register for a team outside of their country before they turn 18.

So, in the young forward’s case, that means he can’t move to Europe until at least January 2019.

Plenty of time to keep scouting him.
