Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders is ‘charmed’ by PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo and that has led Jurgen Klopp into ‘chasing’ the Netherlands star.

That’s according to TV presented Hans Kraay junior, who believes the player is already on his way out of the Dutch club.

Gakpo has been impressing at PSV for the past two years, bagging 21 goals and 15 assists in 47 games in all competitions for the club last season.

He was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer but remained where he was, electing for another season in the Netherlands to continue his development.

He’s done just that, scoring 13 goals and registering 17 assists in 24 games so far and shining at the World Cup, bagging goals in both of the Netherlands games in Qatar so far.

That’s led to intense speculation that he could be set for a major transfer in January, with Liverpool brought into the picture yesterday by journalist Marco Timmer.

Kraay now follows that up and insists their interest comes from Lijnders, who has convinced Klopp on the forward.

“Gakpo is gone. PSV are not going to keep him, and cannot keep him anymore,” he told ESPN.

“Gakpo will soon be playing in the Premier League. The chance that it will be Manchester United is now a lot higher again, because Cristiano Ronaldo has left.

“They have even more money available. At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so he is chasing Jürgen Klopp. Yes, Gakpo is gone.”
