As is often the case in football, a terrible situation at one club can provide opportunities for others. This week confirmation came from Bordeaux that they’re ceasing to be a professional club and will enter bankruptcy proceedings.

This follows years of financial turmoil and mismanagement. They can’t even attempt to get back on their feet by selling any players they have because everyone has been released meaning others can sign them as free agents.

Therefore, the transfer vultures are circling to try and snatch players away at no cost. Liverpool could be one of those to take advantage, according to a report from FootMercato.

Arne Slot’s side are said to have been following Mathys Angely.

He’s just 17-years-of-age but made his senior debut for Bordeaux in Ligue 2 last season. The central defender is not only attracting interest from Liverpool, with French clubs also thought to be keen on him.

Due to a rule change since Brexit, Angely wouldn’t be able to arrive in England until he turns 18, which is next April. That may be something of a hurdle for Liverpool, but they could secure him and use a loan elsewhere for the coming season.
