Liverpool have ‘gone on the attack’ for AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and fancy their chances of winning the race for his signature.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Reds have ‘announced their intention’ to sign the Frenchman, but there are still a number of details to be ironed out.
Tchouameni has enjoyed a meteoric rise since his arrival at Monaco two years ago, with a series of impressive performances establishing him as a star for his club and earning him a regular place in France’s squad as well.
Those performances have not gone unnoticed around Europe, with Real Madrid known to be big fans of the player and keen to sign him in the summer.
There is a growing belief that the player is ‘living his last few weeks’ at Monaco as a result, but it is Liverpool who are advancing for him.
FM explain that Tchouameni has been the ‘subject of interest’ from a number of clubs, including Liverpool, in the past few months, and Jurgen Klopp ‘loves’ the player.
He’s made the midfielder ‘one of his priorities’ for the summer as the Reds are keen to find a replacement for Jordan Henderson and James Milner.
Contacts have already taken place between Liverpool and the player’s entourage, and while it’s said the sporting project doesn’t trump Real Madrid’s, the financial aspect does. Indeed, the Reds ‘hold the rope’ on that front.
This has led Liverpool to ‘believe in their chances’ of getting the midfielder, although there are still a number of aspects to be ironed out.
Among these are his asking price, which is unlikely to be anything below €50m. Indeed, his value is ‘worth well over’ that figure.
As such, a deal is still in its ‘infancy’, and Real Madrid ‘really want’ him as well, but Liverpool are positioning themselves nonetheless.
