On Friday morning, Portuguese newspaper Record featured a story revealing that Liverpool asked to train at Sporting’s stadium José de Alvalade next week.
The Reds, who face Benfica at the Estádio da Luz on Tuesday evening, would like a favour from the Eagles’ city rivals to have a working session on the morning of the match.
By using Sporting’s facilities to train earlier that day, Liverpool would even give up on doing the traditional adaptation session at Benfica’s stadium before the match.
The story pointed out that the Reds and Lions have a good relationship, formed by a few deals made between the clubs, and recalled that the RedBird Capital Partners recently made a bid to buy a debt from the Portuguese club.
Following the coverage the story got, Record then featured a piece on their website pointing out that the reaction from Benfica fans to the news wasn’t very good.
They claim that in forums and social media, Eagles’ fans have been saying that Sporting’s help to Liverpool is some kind of support for the Reds in the Champions League clash.
Record then brings a story explaining all the deals made between Liverpool and the Lions in the past few years, showing there’s indeed a good relationship there, regardless of what Benfica and their fans might think about it.
