Real Madrid are stepping up their interest in River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono thanks to growing interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.
That’s according to Sport, who report that Real Madrid are accelerating for the highly rated Argentine youngster because of the Premier League duo.
The 17-year-old is sought after across Europe as he’s considered the biggest revelation in Argentine football and an undoubted star of the future. Crucially, he can also move to Europe easily thanks to holding an Italian passport.
Real Madrid are pushing to be the ones who secure his signature and already finalised a contract agreement with him last June. They then put the deal on hold because River Plate refused to deal below the youngster’s €45m release clause.
They avoided a signing in January but now could be the time for the final push as there is ‘growing interest’ from the Premier League.
Liverpool are particularly keen and could use Alexis MacAllister, a fellow Argentine, to try and convince the young midfielder into moving to Anfield. Manchester United have also been admirers for more than a year and are planning a big summer rebuild as well.
Real Madrid are aware of that and seemingly don’t want to miss out to either, so have held meetings with Mastantuono’s agents this week in an attempt to push things along.
The transfer price remains the main stumbling block, so work is underway to fix that, with Liverpool and Manchester United in the background as far as they’re concerned in Spain.
