There’s quite some drama ongoing between Juventus and Atalanta over the future of Teun Koopmeiners and what other deals the Dutchman’s future could impact.
La Dea have identified Celtic’s Matt O’Riley as their replacement for when Koopmeiners finally leaves and expectedly heads for Turin this summer. Atalanta want €60m for their midfielder, and Juventus don’t want to pay it… so they’re trying to panic La Dea by going for O’Riley themselves.
The Italian media are suggesting that’s nothing more than a transfer tactic, but the soap opera could allow other clubs in. Calciomercato report Liverpool are ‘at the door’ for Koopmeiners and the Reds have ‘already made a move’ for the midfielder.
The specifics of that Liverpool move aren’t shared, although it would seem clear they didn’t reach €60m because that would have been accepted.
There’s no rush at Atalanta, who are prepared to let this one drag into August. They seem confident they can get the €60m they want for Koopmeiners, whether that’s from Juventus or elsewhere.
Premier League clubs generally get a mention, and Atalanta’s deal to sell Rasmus Hojlund is a pattern they want to follow.
