When Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho decides to drop Paul Pogba to the bench, there’s bound to be stories linking the midfielder with a move away from Old Trafford in Italy.
The World Cup winner came off the bench in his side’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal and was an unused substitute in his side’s 4-1 win over Fulham over the weekend.
Catalan newspaper Sport has now jumped into the reported saga surrounding the Portuguese tactician and his player.
They give a bit of background and mention when the ex-Juventus star wanted to join Barcelona in the summer, it angered his manager.
It’s also said that Pogba’s post on social media the day the Red Devils were knocked out of the EFL Cup didn’t go down well with Mourinho, old sagas revisited.
But, the 25-year-old was still an important player for the two-time Champions League winning coach as the latter considered the France international as the spine of his side.
However, after starting the last two matches on the bench, it’s claimed the two are now growing apart as they ‘live their final fight’ because the relationship between Mourinho and Pogba could be ‘coming to an end’.
Sport also pinpoints how Pogba’s absence helped Nemanja Matic playing alongside Ander Herrera. “Matic, accustomed to having to recover the balls lost by Pogba, played without so much pressure, and Ander Herrera balanced with the Serbian.”
In the report, there is only mention of Juventus’ rumoured interested in re-signing their former player, there’s no effort to talk up a move to Barcelona.
The player’s wages, transfer fee, and all his problems this season make it unlikely the Catalan club will make a move.
That even Sport aren’t talking it up is quite telling.
