Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has been praised by Argentina teammate Emiliano Martinez, who has labelled him “a little treasure”.
The goalkeeper has been speaking to TyC Sports after Argentina’s 2-0 win over Australia in an international friendly on Thursday.
Garnacho played 16 minutes of that game after coming on as a second half substitute for Nicolás González to make his international debut for the reigning world champions.
It’s the latest stage in a rapid rise for Garnacho, who has been a regular for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag this season.
The 18-year-old managed six goals and six assisting in 36 appearances this season, with a series of impressive cameos from the bench, including in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City.
He is very much considered a star of the future for Manchester United and Argentina, hence the latter’s decision to include him in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for this break.
He’s already made a positive impression on the more established stars too, with Martinez praising the 18-year-old.
“He is a very humble guy,” he told the outlet when asked about Garnacho.
“He came to work; he didn’t talk a lot. He is very eager to play. The truth is that he’s a little treasure and I hope we can mould him so that he gives us as much as Angel Di María.”
