Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has heaped praise on Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim, as he continues to be linked with Liverpool.
The full-back has been speaking to Expresso, relayed by A Bola, as Amorim currently finds himself top of the Reds list to replace Jurgen Klopp.
The German manager is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and after Xabi Alonso elected to stay with Bayer Leverkusen, Amorim has become the favourite.
He’s been earning himself plenty of admirers with Sporting since taking charge in March 2020, winning one league title, three Portuguese league cups and a super cup as well as developing a growing list of players into undoubted stars.
Porro is one such player to have benefitted from working with him, making 98 appearances under him, scoring 12 and assisting 20 before joining Tottenham in January 2023.
He’s gone from strength to strength since then and is enjoying life under Ange Postecoglou, a manager he sees lots of similarities with in Amorim and who has also found himself occasionally linked to the Liverpool job as well.
“He (Amorim) is young, has a lot of ambition, a little bit like Ange Postecoglou here at Tottenham,” he said.
“He always wants more and that’s what puts him on the world’s lips and coveted by so many teams in Europe. He has a special way of working, he plays eye to eye against any opponent, which is also similar to what we do at Tottenham, there are several similarities.
“It is known and recognised how Sporting and Tottenham play, there is a clear identity, whether winning 5-0 or losing 5-0.”
