It’s all well and good for Newcastle to be interested in a player to the extent the French press keep going on about it, but if no move is made quickly, they could miss out to slightly more prestigious opposition.
This is what could be happening with Saint-Etienne’s Jonathan Bamba, as more and more clubs keep getting added to the list, or at least, that’s what the European press would have you believe.
Newcastle, Sevilla and Lille in France appear to be the recurring culprits, yet now we have mentions of Fiorentina, AC Milan and Inter Milan being added to the party thanks to Estadio Deportivo, who relay “Italian reports”.
However, a quick Google search in Italy shows the last mention of these clubs next to Jonathan Bamba’s name date back to October 8th on JuveLive.it, which isn’t exactly the best source.
Nevertheless, with Jonathan Bamba’s contract coming to an end at the end of the season and the forward currently refusing to sign a renewal, it wouldn’t be surprising if such clubs were at least keeping an eye on his situation.
Interested since the summer, Newcastle and Rafa Benitez, if they are serious about signing Jonathan Bamba, having already missed out on Nicolas Pépé, might need to act quickly.
If they don’t, they could have a real tough battle on their hands.
