The moment it was reported that Inter were looking for a new full-back, with Davide Zappacosta becoming one of the options, we quietly wondered how long it would take before Matteo Darmian was thrown into the mix.

Well, rest assured, it’s happened, as Gazzetta dello Sport report on Monday the Manchester United defender is among the names being studied by the Serie A side.

This comes after what feels like years of a transfer to Juventus being close, yet the Red Devils’ high demands of €20m+ have stopped the deal in its tracks.

Then came the warning that Napoli, should Elseid Hysaj’s release clause be triggered, could return, but that has yet to be confirmed, especially since the Albanian remains in the south of Italy for the time being.

Now we have Inter, whose decision to not make Joao Cancelo’s loan permanent and sell Davide Santon to AS Roma has left them rather short at right-back.

We’ll have to see if this is just an automatic mention or if there’s anything to it, but previous reports on the situation suggest Davide Zappacosta remains their favoured option, even if Chelsea are asking more than €20m for the Italian.
