Back in the months of October and November, we covered a few claims from Italy claiming that Premier League sides had been interested in the Santos midfielder Matheus Jesus.

First Watford and West Ham were said to be following the player, and then it was Everton who would have joined the battle against some Italian competition.

At that stage, we pointed out that the rumours didn’t make any sense. On loan from Estoril, the player had a contract with Santos until the end of the year, and was far from impressing during his spell in Brazil.

That’s why it sounded more like an agent trying to get offers from Europe, and that’s a theory that makes sense now, because apparently, Matheus Jesus is off to Japan.

As reported by UOL, Santos are not happy with his performances, and made him free to play somewhere else. So they’re sending him back to Estoril so he can be loaned to Gamba Osaka.

The move only makes it clear that Watford, West Ham or Everton never really wanted him, otherwise they would have easily signed the player in the January window.
