French newspaper L’Equipe said in their Thursday edition that Crystal Palace are interested in rivalling Wolfsburg for Rennes’ Paul-Georges Ntep.
That was then followed up by Germany’s Kicker saying it would likely mean Wolfsburg would have to pay more than the €5m envisaged, and settle things quickly, if they wanted to get their man.
Crystal Palace’s interest all seemed rather convenient for Rennes, and we said earlier today: ‘The transfer of Julian Draxler to PSG wasn’t exactly secret and Rennes will be well aware the German club have money to spend, it’s only natural for them to try every trick to increase a transfer fee.
Given all of that, there may be doubt over whether Crystal Palace are genuinely interested, or if they’re simply being used to persuade Wolfsburg into believing they really need to pay more money and get things done quickly.’
Well, there have been quick developments. L’Equipe, who remember first claimed the Crystal Palace interest, say Ntep has now said goodbye to his teammates and is off to Wolfsburg ‘very quickly’ for €8.5m.
Surely Crystal Palace deserve 10% commission on the extra €3.5m?
